Can use omniORB makefiles in my own projects?

For my projects I found it really useful modeling my makefiles after those of 
omniORB demos, so that any platform-specific libraries, rules etc. were 
handled "automatically".

I just downloaded the latest omniORB 2.4.0 snapshot and I noticed that the 
structure of the makefiles has changed. I tried to modify the makefiles to get 
them working, but it just seems I'm not the hacker I used to be ;-)

My question is: Is there any way to use omniORB makefiles to build something 
NOT in omniORB source tree?

I append my current best guesses. The only remaining problem is that make 
insists in copying the .idl files to <omniORB-source>/stub/ (which is a shared 
directory I have no write access to)
