LD_LIBRARY_PATH seems to work for me.  rld is the runtime linker :

"For n32 or 64-bit programs, if LD_LIBRARYN32_PATH or LD_LIBRARY64_PATH
is not specified, then rld will honor LD_LIBRARY_PATH if specified."

man rld for more details.
