[omniORB] makeIOR like Orbix?

Maybe this is a stupid question, but forgive me, I am quite new to Corba.

QUESTION:
Orbix has a function of type  orb->makeIOR(host, port, hiearcical_name) that
makes a stringified IOR in a CORBA client and lets me access a remote object
with this IOR.
I have not found any way to do this in OmniORB, is there a way, or is there
another way without using any NameService ?
