[omniORB] SSL? JavaIDL or RMI-IIOP interoperability?

We are considering using OmniORB2. 2 questions:
1. Security is rather important for us. In the e-mail archives,
   I found that IIOP over an SSL transport could be done.
   What is the current status? Is SSL transport available?
2. We want to be able to interoperate with Java applets.
   Does JavaIDL work fine with OmniORB?
   What about Java's RMI-IIOP (which requires CORBA 2.3)?
