[omniORB] How to use a thread to stop the MAIN THREAD of omniORB?

I've looked up the online doc of omniORB4.0. It says the server will generate one thread per connection as default.

Now, I want to design a single thread to help to shutdown the ORB Server. First, I think that using shutdown() method could shutdown the Server. But if so, many active connections will be destroyed.
Now how can I use this thread to control the main thread?
